After a year of calls, letters, e-mails, research, and prayer, May 12, 2001 was the day that most of the family branches of the Laster/Turner/Turney family met to share memories and hope for the future. The Chattanooga Family hosted the reunion for more then 100 relatives, who traveled from Ohio, Maryland, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. Family members enjoyed photographs, viewing the history and family tree, stories, games, a barbecue, reception, church service, and a farewell brunch. Saturday's cookout was nestled in the beautiful surroundings of Harrison Bay State Park. The Saturday night reception was held at The Historic Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel. The family attended the historic First Baptist Church of East 8th Street. Ironically, the building is on the national register because it was built by slaves.
