Season's Greetings
I am sure that everyone can remember a favorite food or a family tradition that your family enjoyed during the holidays. What did your family enjoy? Did you pass these traditions to the next generation?
My favorite holiday tradition was to buy an ornament for my daughters for more than thirty years. A lot of care, thought, and love was placed in selecting the right ornament that reflected something that occurred during that year. When they started a home of their own, they will have a reminder of of how much we love them at Christmas. (Hint: Always keep your collections in the original packages and do not write on the packaging!) We have a new tradition of Brunch after church the Sunday before Christmas. If we spend Christmas in Florida, we go out to brunch and go to a Miami Heats game. The latter tradition is a great escape from all of the work of a Tennessee Christmas; however, the work is a labor of love.
The Hugh Laster Family where I grew up included a Christmas Eve Church Program, where we all had to say speeches. We could open one gift after church and stay up as late as we could with our parents. Daddy had to have his spiked eggnog, while our
mother baked her assortment of mouthwatering cakes. The greatest gift that we received each year was their time and unconditional love. Hopefully, I passed this on to my children.
